Expo 58 in Brussel
SPACE
- Atomium
"The Atomium is a structure that is half way between sculpture and architecture, symbolising an iron of cristal, magnified 165 billion times. Throughout the ages, man has sought to give architectural expression to his desire for height; towers, pyramids, belfries, cathedrals,…
The Atomium, in particular, embodies the audacity of an epoch that seeks to confront the destiny of man with scientific discovery."

RESEARCH
- Le poeme electronique
Originally performed during the universal exhibition of Bruxelles in 1958.
A mix of colors, lights, sounds, voices, images and electroacoustic music.
As Le Corbusier said himself : "Le Poème électronique se propose de montrer, au sein d'un tumulte angoissant, notre civilisation partie à la conquête des temps modernes".
"Le poeme electronique proposes to show, within a distressing tumult, our civilization on her way to conquest modern times"
This was the one of the first live audiovisual performances.
The Phillipspaviljoen does not exist anymore.
By Le Corbusier, Varese & Xenakis

A MASTERCLASS FOR LIVE AUDIOVISUAL ART
Because the biggest merit of live A/V is its cross-border and cross-disciplinary character the masterclass will challenge its participants to do just that: collaborate.
The goal of this blog is to generate an open-source effect: opening up the discussions from within the masterclass to the rest of the world. Let this be a call for everyone to participate and join or start a debate.
Eventually, this blog will be printed as a book. An additional DVD with the open-source versions (Creative Commons license) of the participants masterclass-projects will be available afterwards. So if you post something to this blog, you are co-authoring the book.

live a/v project research "space & place"
Researching the space & place for live audiovisual art.
"Beyond the white walls of the gallery, the black box of the theatre or the darkened interior of the cinema, there are other forms of expression where the relationship between artist and place is of primary importance. An artist’s response to the qualities and conditions of a particular place is central to the development of a project." Artangel
Genius loci;
‘spirit of the place’
The prevailing character or atmosphere of a place.
- The search for a space (in brussel)
- Research on the place (qualities & conditions)

I am eyekino
I am eyekino, I create, I am a mechanical eye.Show you the world as I see it.
Now and forever, I free myself from human immobility.
I am in constant motion, I draw near then away from objects.
Maneuvering in the chaos of movement.
Starting with movements composed of the most complex combinations
for exploration, from the chaos of visual phenomena that fills space.
Eyekino lives and moves in time and space.
She gathers and records impressions in a different form than the human eye.

Random images #2
This time from the exhibition of Holger Lippman at Mediaruimte. Running as realtime software, these pieces are self-running and autonomous of the artist, yet are clearly connected to concepts of live cinema. See this text by Inke Arns for a discussion of the performative qualities of software.
