Hey,
Cimatics presents
A MASTERCLASS FOR LIVE AUDIOVISUAL ART
Cimatics, Brussels International Platform for Live A/V, presents a Masterclass Live Audiovisual Art, within the framework of the studio-program Experimental Media-art provided by the VAF (the Flemish Audiovisual Fund).A MASTERCLASS FOR LIVE AUDIOVISUAL ART
Because the biggest merit of live A/V is its cross-border and cross-disciplinary character the masterclass will challenge its participants to do just that: collaborate.
THIS BLOG WILL BE PRINTED AND PUBLISHED AS A BOOK
The goal of this blog is to generate an open-source effect: opening up the discussions from within the masterclass to the rest of the world. Let this be a call for everyone to participate and join or start a debate.
Eventually, this blog will be printed as a book. An additional DVD with the open-source versions (Creative Commons license) of the participants masterclass-projects will be available afterwards. So if you post something to this blog, you are co-authoring the book.

contradiction projections/body
I just wrote a lot of things about the contraction in combining the medium 'body' and the medium 'projection'. I deleted it (because it was to confusing) and decided to just ask this difficult question: Why combining projections with bodies and what will happen when you do that in a club? (Not that I want to give doubts about the project, I just think that this is a very interesting debate and will give practical guides to Lotta, Ambra and Filip and hopefully to all of ous.)
PS: Maybe some of the labels with this message could be a base to build answers on this question.

First reflection is the thing to get away from a two dimensional screen. I also think that it would be possible to create really strong images, that can maybe have a more physical effect on audience. Looking at movement sometimes has the effect of experiencing the motion (I think a little bit similar to when you play different team sports and you find yourself feeling the motion of the person just about to hit the ball).
I have the experience from performing in club environment that it needs to be strong images without a standard beginning and end. Most people go to clubs to release instead of looking for intake as what may be the case with going to a theater. This is something I discussed with my russian collegue Alexandr Andriyashkin who has much longer experiences in performing in clubs.
I'd like to look for a possibility to create a tool (like Ambra said earlier) that in this case would function in club environment, and I think VJ:ing could be good inspiration because it already belongs in a club. The gogo dancing... also belongs in a club but imagine a gogo dancer with twist a la characters in Twinpeaks. Context wise I think it could be interesting to play with the fact that a gogo dancer in most cases dance sexy.. to twist that into something absurd is just something that attracts me. I'm sorry... I really liked Filips idea with perfect (clay) boobs that sag...
But also, referring to Ambras idea with creating a tool that can be used for various aesthetics and concepts, it's of course not only the body of a gogo dancer that can be there... it can range from pure aesthetics to somewhat narrative based images.
What I like is that one could allow a stretched performance at a club since audience is not obliged to watch the whole time. I also think it would be interesting to perform all elements live; music, projections and dancer/s + possible other things.
Thank you for asking I'll think further. Inspiring! Lotta
